First, I almost lost it on the tangled mess of yarn. And than I almost had it! It was on my body, it was lovely. Holly even caught it all on film.
I'm keeping'em! All 7 of the size 7's and every duplicate I have out there. I have enough trouble with my knitting to not invite more to the party! So Needle God and Murphy . . .. stay away! Unless of course you bring with you the tidings of Gauge.
Off to search for the perfect pattern for using 5.5 skeins of yummy ORANGE Wool Cotton. I'm thinking of a white or tan striped v-neck short sleeved thingee.
Wishing everyone a snow day! (After 1 today, that is!) Please send positive, thoughts to Alexandria City Hall today. We want approval!
I have no
I am concerned about my lack of 4's. Why no 4's? I have every other size in DPNs, straight or circs. I have 3's and 5's. Do I subconsciously have a problem with the number 4? I do have 7 size 7’s and I can’t remember a single project where I’ve used 7’s. I’ve always been particularly fond of the number 7. It was my softball jersey number. When given an option I choose 7 or 17 or 27 or . . . you get the picture. Is this carrying over into my knitting? I think I am going to have to pick up a pair of 4’s just to elevate any discrimination issues.
Yes, I spent the morning taking needle inventory. What else does one do when by 8 a.m. on a winter Sunday you’ve fed the dogs, fed yourself and the Husband (he actually fed himself, I just cooked), did 2 loads of laundry, finished knitting a sweater, steamed that sweater and fixed the washing machine drain? You play with your knitting stuff. My needles are inventoried and my Knitting Knotebook is updated!
I’m torn. Do I sell my duplicates or at least the ones I don’t like to knit with? Or do I keep them around “just in case”? I’m thinking I’ll put the dupes in the closet and carry around only 1 set of each size. But do I also carry around each length for circs? Maybe just the 16” and 24”. What if I sell them and suddenly find myself with several projects calling for the same size? Will I regret selling even the ones I don’t really like? I know I’ll keep the 3 sets of size 1 DPNs. I tend to break them. And the 2 sets of size 2’s. Oh yeah, another thing you might do when waking up very early on a winter Sunday? Drink too much coffee.

Fletcher is complete. The toggle buttons and the loops are attached. I only need to steam him a little and he’ll be perfect! It takes a village to finish a sweater. Thanks to Holly for sewing on the toggles and Kristine for sewing most of the loops in place. I sewed one of them all by myself! J
Pattern: Fletcher found in SIMPLY NORO BY JANE ELLISON

Yarn:
Not the suggested yarn from the pattern. I used Noro Transitions
55% Wool, 10% Silk, 7% Cashmere, 7% Angora, 7% Alpaca, 7% Camel, 7% Kid Mohair
Color #5
Excellent, yummy yarn. If it weren’t so warm, I’d want to knit another garment with this yarn again soon.
Needles, Notions and accessories:
Suggested needle is US 10. Surprise! Surprise! I used a US 10.75 and Got Gauge. You’ll also need 1 long and 2 short stitch holders. I found a row counter extremely helpful. 5 toggle buttons are suggested and I used 4, leaving the top one off. I sewed an extra button into the seam.
Time: I did not work on Fletcher alone. It took a little over a month to complete. I believe if I worked on only Fletcher, knitting a couple hours every night and more on the weekends I could have finished in 2 weeks. Fletcher was a very quick finishing project! Seaming was very easy. (Yes, I said seaming and easy in the same sentence.) I did have a little trouble with using one section of the yarn for seaming, it kept breaking. No worries, I just moved on to another section! (Note to others, it’s faster when others do part of your finishing. See Knit Happens blog for the face to use to make people help you.)
Fun factor: A perfect 10
The pattern, the yarn, the end product! I enjoyed it all. The pattern was well-written and easy to follow. A good pattern is important. I have enough challenge as it is. I don’t need to deal with pattern problems.
Fletcher’s design is very straight forward with very little increasing or decreasing. Even the hood was simple. And hoods scare me. The sleeves are seed stitch, talk about a trip to Sleeve Island! Great plane knitting. Luckily much of the body is stocking knit. I can honestly say I wasn’t bored. I would recommend knitting back, sleeve, front, sleeve, and front. It’s a big project so be realistic with your timeframe.
Now on to Spring knitting!
Fletcher is complete! I might need a few binder clips to keep him closed until I learn how to sew on toggle buttons. Hopefully someone at Late Night will help me strategically place them.
