I have one warm foot this evening. I finished my first toe-up Red Sox Sock. Take a look. The sock is a bit bulky so these will most likely become my house socks or boot socks.
Off to cook dinner and cast-on for the second. Hmmmm, perhaps I could wear my Wavy Lace sock and my Red Sox Sock.
My Red Sox are off to a great start! With Wendy’s Generic Toe-Up Sock pattern to guide me, the kind patience of the Knitting Wizard teaching me a great new cast-on and short-rows (they are way too fun!), the support of the “irregulars” Cindy, Shelley, Audrey and Katie, shop owner and friend Kristine, employees and friends Holly and Rossana and the numerous others gathered around the table, I am while on my way to completing my very first toe-up sock. It truly takes a village to teach me how to knit a sock! It looks quite good, if I do say so myself. I hope to have it finished by the time the game starts tonight. I’d like to be wearing my Red Sox by game 4.
Here’s a picture of my Wavy Lace Socks. The second is on-hold during the World Series of Knitting. So far I’m enjoying knitting socks. I can see wear they make a perfect fit as my quick and portable projects.
Off to make myself a cuppa and settle in with my knitting!
Let's Go Red Sox! What better way to celebrate the Red Sox in the World Series than a Sock-Along?
We had Olympic Knitting and Debate Knitting. So why not World Series Knitting? What fun to be watching the Red Sox and knitting Red Socks (or any color for that matter.) The Knitting Wizard has more info.
I just called Knit Happens to secure some yummy sock yarn. I think I will use Wendy's Generic Toe-Up Pattern. Or the super-cute Blue Sky Sock Pattern, if it comes in in time. Or the cute pattern on display at KH. I'll decide for sure in time for the game tomorrow night.
Let's go RED SOX! Perhaps the effort will ward off any curses. It's worth a try!
Rita Rocks is playing at Spanky's in Leesburg tomorrow night!
Glad you asked. Why yes. Yes, I do! And, hold on to your hat, I am even using the suggested needle size (9.) Wait, it gets better. I am using the Blue Sky yarn first made famous, or infamous, as the Classic “Kevlar” Poncho. And this feat occurred while watching the Red Sox win. Amazing, isn't it? (Go ahead, insert your favorite joke about Hell freezing over here.)
I called a “Do Over” on one of my projects yesterday. As wonderful as the Classic Poncho is . . . I was not feeling the love for the yarn and pattern combo. Katie assured me this can happen once a large project goes off in a very, wrong direction. (Somewhere there is the story of the gauge gone-wrong Kevlar poncho. Who know you should measure EXACTLY to what the instructions say?)
With just 2 additional skeins of the Blue Sky, perfectly matched to those I purchased months ago, the Classic Poncho is now well on it's way to becoming the Zip Cardigan. Saved from life in the bottom of the project basket watching other projects grow up to be actual garments! The black Blue Sky is much better suited to the Zip Cardigan. The Classic Poncho may one day be a WIP, using a different yarn.
I’m rather excited about the Zip Cardigan. It has a crochet edge and a zipper. (duh, it’s in the pattern name, I know) It will be my first zipper. I have done a crochet edge before but it wasn’t so even. Am I worried about this project? No way. I have some great friends who will help guide me through the “scary” parts. Have I said how much I love the community at Knit Happens? I don’t think I have . . . . but that’s another entry for another day.
